Book cover and Dr Saroj Dubey

Dr Saroj Dubey’s book contains insightful concepts and actionable exercises for navigating thoughts and emotions, fostering mindfulness and grounding in the present moment.

I enjoy books that provoke contemplation on confronting and overcoming difficult situations in life. Upon immersing myself in the pages of ‘Rx For Resilience,’ I embarked on a transformative journey that deeply resonated with my personal experiences. Authored by the renowned Delhi-NCR-based gastroenterologist Dr Saroj Dubey, this recent publication is not merely a roadmap to resilience, it also sheds light on the path to self-discovery and healing in the face of life’s adversities.

The book’s Foreword is by Suma Varughese, former editor of Life Positive, the magazine I too worked for at one point.

The book opens with Dr Dubey sharing a poignant personal anecdote of loss that compelled him to introspect and delve deeper within himself. Describing it as a spiritual awakening that altered his life trajectory, he shares his coping mechanisms for an incident that could have tarnished his esteemed reputation as a doctor.

What distinguishes this book is its simplicity and practicality. The author’s emphasis on acceptance, mindfulness, happiness, and present-moment awareness struck a chord with me. With a well-organized structure comprising insightful concepts and actionable exercises, the book is a DIY manual on navigating one’s thoughts and emotions during internal turmoil, fostering mindfulness and grounding in the present moment. It incorporates wisdom and quotes from spiritual and self-help authors, enriching the narrative with profound insights.

‘Rx For Resilience’ imparts invaluable perceptions capable of catalyzing life-altering transformations. It serves as a reassuring reminder that even amidst life’s darkest moments, the resilience and light within ourselves can be harnessed. This guidebook is a treasure trove for individuals seeking to revive vibrancy and fortitude in their lives. Dr Dubey’s willingness to candidly share his encounters with fear, shame, and despair, despite being a successful doctor at the pinnacle of his career, underscores the importance of vulnerability and courage in personal growth.

Upon completing the book, I found myself smiling while awaiting my husband’s biopsy results. It was a lovely summer day and I allowed myself to experience the anxiety, fear, trepidation and hope mindfully, reminding myself to embrace each moment with acceptance and awareness.

In essence, ‘Rx For Resilience’ is a compelling read for those navigating life’s trials with resilience and grace. It equips readers with wisdom and practices for introspection, empowering them to surmount obstacles and rediscover their inner strength.

‘Rx For Resilience: A Physician’s Perspective on Embracing the Present and Discovering Joy & Strength’ by Dr Saroj Dubey is published by Hay House India. Its Kindle edition is available here.

There are books that one skims through and puts away , and those that are a one-time read ….then there are those one is pulled back to, again and again, for all the easy learnings and the simple wisdom that they hold . This book definitely falls in the last category, going by your review, Raji, and what I have read of it .
It also seems to have been dropped into my lap by the all-knowing Universe, to show me the way out of a current personal crisis ….and I am grateful indeed for that . Thank you, Raji , for a truly splendid summary of this superlative book !
