Some passages in ‘One Minute Wisdom’ spoke straight to the heart — simple in words, yet rich in meaning. Here are a few that stayed with us.
The Map of Satchitananda

Above is a simple diagram to illustrate how Sat, Chit, and Ananda work together:
- Sat grounds you in what is real.
- Chit keeps you curious and aware.
- Ananda reminds you that bliss and fulfilment lie within.
Together, these three principles form a timeless guide to living a life of purpose and joy. In doing so, we find balance—a state the rishis called samata, where our individual self stands in harmony with the universal.
“Satchitananda: Reality, Awareness and Bliss—Sat, Chit and Ananda—are not separate ideas. They are the foundation of all existence. Everything in the universe begins with them and returns to them. They are always present, shaping who we are and why we are here. When we understand and live by Satchitananda, life reveals its deeper purpose. The rishis taught us that this understanding is the key to a fulfilling and harmonious life. It connects us to the infinite within and around us.”
On Deserving Before Desiring
“Focus on deserving what you desire. All your desires will roll over on your feet.
“…Every day I try my best to deserve the job I already have.”
This elegantly speaks to inner cultivation, self-awareness, and a wellness-oriented mindset, reminding us that fulfillment begins with becoming worthy of what we seek.
On Mindfulness and Re-Perceiving Default Judgments
“We all get stuck at work… the place where we always get stuck is in our minds.… The only way to come unstuck is to re-perceive your own mental models… Mindfulness gives you a more objective and clearer view of your own judgments and assumptions.”
Here, Chatterjee invites us to see our mental constructs for what they are—and to gently reshape them through mindfulness.

‘One Minute Wisdom’ doesn’t just inform—it transforms. By blending Eastern philosophy, leadership insights, and everyday metaphors, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee provides readers with a portable source of wisdom. And as the title of the book indicates, transformation doesn’t require enormous effort—just a willingness to pause, observe, and awaken, one mindful minute at a time.
Wabi Sabi: Celebration of Imperfection
“During my visit to Japan, I saw the imprints of Japanese aesthetics and the quest for beauty everywhere I went. The lowly toilet seat, a washbasin, and even a mundane manhole looked like a work of art. The Japanese mindset is not fueled by the urge to be the best, the fastest, or the most perfect. Their mindset assumes imperfection in the nature of reality… A Japanese car becomes an unfinished work of art!”
“It was a pleasure meeting two of our bright Executive MBA students… I told them that the mind is like a fence on the field of life… If the mental fences become rigid, there are bound to be conflicts… Good professionals ought to stay vigilant and continuously mend their fences.”
“The answer came: ‘Trying to know Buddha through the human intellect would be as futile as driving a nail in the sky… There is just one life. There is just an awakened Buddha… No wonder there is one Buddha and billions of buddhus (fools)!’”
“People see through their minds rather than their eyes… If your mind is preoccupied, your eyes may miss most of the sight… Our cultures define the structures of our mind… Crossing a puddle of water, an Indian may see a frolicking frog. A Chinese person may look at the same frog and see fabulous food! Isn’t that so?”
On the Inner Container — Self & Awareness
Disciple: “What does the bowl stand for?”
Master: “Your self!”
Asked to elaborate: “Your attention is focused on the penny-knowledge you collect from books and teachers. You would do better to pay attention to the bowl in which you hold it.”
This beautifully underscores that true wisdom lies not in the information we accumulate, but in the quality of awareness that receives it.
Why ‘One Minute Wisdom’ Matters
In an era where leadership is often reduced to productivity metrics and life advice is consumed in fleeting social media quotes, ‘One Minute Wisdom’ stands out. It asks you to pause—not for an hour, but for a minute—and in that pause, to allow a shift in perception.
Whether you are a corporate leader, a teacher, or a seeker on the path of spiritual growth, this book’s gentle yet penetrating reflections offer guidance for mindfulness, emotional balance, and authentic leadership.
Final Reflection
The true magic of ‘One Minute Wisdom’ is that it doesn’t just inform—it transforms. By weaving together Eastern philosophy, leadership insight, and everyday metaphors, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee offers readers a portable well of wisdom. And perhaps, as the book quietly suggests, transformation doesn’t demand monumental effort—just a willingness to stop, notice, and awaken, one mindful minute at a time.
