To rest the mind, STOP for one minute every hour

‘To be busy is to be important’ idea leads us down the wrong path. Resting our minds as well as our bodies every hour is a practice much required in a world that is speeding up.

Having good mental energy is a daily necessity, not a random luxury. Regular rest and recharge help our mind function to its full potential. If we don’t rest our mind, our mind becomes tired from the creation of clutter of wrong thoughts and emotions. Why take care of your mind? Because your thoughts take care of your body, your relationships, your work, your life, and even your destiny. Every thought creates vibrations. Vibrations are like sound waves; no obstacle can stop them. So we cannot afford even a single wrong thought.

The best time to awaken both body and spirit is in the early morningThe first half hour of conscious awareness will be the foundation of your day. We are fresh, in solitude, and the vibrations of the world are at their calmest. It is not surprising that you will find all experienced meditators and yogis up with the dawn, inviting the sun of spirit to shine into the heart of their soul. The good vibrations you create and nurture within at the start of each day will then silently touch everyone with whom you come into contact.

To rest and re-program the mind with the right thinking patterns, take a Full Stop!  Pause to look within to check and see if your mind is fine.  Practicing self-care by regulating the traffic of thoughts and rejuvenating the mind takes 1 minute after every 59 minutes and is an easy and effective way to return to peace and happiness.  When we do this, it is a spiritual boost, and the rest of the hour will automatically be taken care of!

If your mind is disturbed, talk to yourself, and nourish your mind by feeding it with a few powerful thoughts. By counseling your mind, it understands and calms down; it learns which thoughts are right and which are not. In that way whenever an external negative situation unfolds, the mind has already been cleaned and recharged and does not need to consciously create the right thoughts. It automatically starts thinking in the right way and empowers you to go back into the scene being powerful and protected.

Remind yourself every morning, ‘I am a powerful being, I remain stable, calm, and happy in every situation’. Practicing 30 minutes of meditation in the morning, one minute of traffic control of the mind after every hour, and 10 minutes of meditation at night will keep you energized at home, at work, and even after returning home in the evening.  Follow this, and watch how your tiredness disappears and how efficient your mind remains throughout the day.

Choose happiness, celebrate even small successes

Life is all about choices. You choose how you react to situations and to people who affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad. Here are some helpful pointers to choose to be healthy, happy, and fulfilled.

Choose to look within: Props of the outside world grant us temporary satisfaction as they have a limited shelf life. However, when we spend time looking within, we get to know ourselves better. I start enjoying my own company and never become bored.

Choose success: Sometimes when we don’t achieve our goals, we say – I failed. Try instead to enjoy what you have achieved. Even if you don’t get what you wanted, you are still successful, just the achievement is pending for now. When you are fulfilling your worldly aims and desires, but you are still unhappy, disturbed, or egoistic, can you call yourself successful? Perhaps, this is because you are not happy with who you are. Success begins with remembering who you truly are, a soul, separate from the body. I am the being, and the body is doing. I am an imperishable spark, the spiritual energy of light seated in the brain, looking through the eyes of my body. It is I, the soul who thinks, feels, speaks, behaves, comes into action, and achieves goals.

Even if you don’t get what you wanted, you are still successful, just the achievement is pending for now. Try instead to enjoy and celebrate what you have achieved.

Choose happiness: We are successful when we are happy, caring, and kind and connect to people irrespective of their achievements, position, or age. The awareness of the spirit makes us all belong to each other.  Happiness is a choice! Happiness is defined by the quality of our thoughts. The more good wishes and kind feelings we have for others, the more our own happiness grows.

Communicate appreciation:  In February 2023, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, inaugurated the water conservation project of Brahma Kumaris in India. On the occasion, he said, and I paraphrase, that it was his good fortune to be always invited by the BKs. Every visit left him spiritually enriched… and has helped him maintain a continuity with his inner self. This is possibly due to the blessing of the Supreme Soul and the love and care bestowed upon him by the Dadis (senior BK sisters).
